Welcome from Rachel Jacques, Chair 2018/19
Thank you for taking the time to stop by this page to find out more about the PTA. As a committee we meet regularly to organise fundraising events and discuss how the funds raised should be spent to best achieve the charity’s aims.
The PTA committee are currently concentrating efforts towards improving and enhancing the outdoor environment at the school.
Why the outdoor focus? Mrs King has explained that learning outside the classroom provides children contact with the natural world and offers them experiences that are unique to outdoors, such as direct contact with the weather and the seasons, and understanding of nature and lifecycles, which are crucial parts of the science National Curriculum.
The outdoor environment also offers space and therefore is particularly important to those children who learn best through active movement. Very young children learn predominately through their sensory and physical experiences which supports brain development and the creation of neural networks.
Our current plans intend to focus on improving 3 distinct areas:
Creation of a new inclusive play area in the school playground
Installation of an all-weather canopy over the courtyard
Installation of a wooden summer house within the courtyard, carpeted and furnished with soft cushions to create a quiet space that can be used as a safe place to calm down in, if feeling overwhelmed or over stimulated.
